Introduced in 2005, the Atlantic 85 succeeded the Atlantic 75 and became the RNLI's most capable inshore rigid inflatable lifeboat. Powered by twin engines and capable of speeds exceeding 35 knots, it can operate in surf, shallow water and close to cliffs, while its self-righting design provides an added margin of safety for crews in extreme conditions.
