The Norfolk fishing town of Sheringham has a proud lifeboat tradition reaching back to a private lifeboat of 1838; the RNLI established a station in 1867. Since 1992 it has run an inshore Atlantic 85. Operations were suspended in February 2025 over the safety of the 1936 boathouse and the cliff behind it.
A private lifeboat served Sheringham from 1838 (operating until 1935), and the RNLI established a station in 1867. With all-weather lifeboats either side at Cromer and Wells, Sheringham has operated an inshore lifeboat since 1992.
A December 2024 structural survey found the 1936 station building may be at the end of its life, and with the cliff behind judged unsafe, activity was fully suspended in February 2025.
