With a lifeboat heritage stretching back to 1803, Hartlepool Lifeboat Station on the County Durham coast has more than two centuries of service. Today it operates a Shannon-class all-weather lifeboat and a B-class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat.
A lifeboat was provided at Hartlepool from local subscriptions in 1803. The early record is complex: there were, over time, five stations in the area — two at West Hartlepool, taken over by the RNLI in 1869, and three at Hartlepool, taken over in 1875 — consolidated to the single station of today.
