Explore two centuries of RNLI lifeboat history, heroic rescues, and the enduring tradition of saving lives at sea.
Burnham-on-Crouch, on the River Crouch in Essex, has run an inshore lifeboat since 1966. One of only a few stations to keep its boats in floating boathouses, it operates an Atlantic 85 and a D-class from the marina.
An inshore lifeboat station was established at Burnham-on-Crouch in May 1966, originally at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and operating only in the sailing season. It became a year-round 24/7 station in 1987, and moved to a purpose-built base in the marina, completed in 1996.
